Ask someone what makes a sports sedan, and more often than not,  they’ll say it’s the BMW 3 Series. It’s the foundation against which all others are measured, the bullseye that every other luxury automaker has in its sights, and the pinnacle of what a luxury sports sedan should be. What’s more, it has been all those things for over 35 years, from the first model introduced in 1975 to the new sixth-generation model launched for 2012.
